How
to use a force feedback joystick ?
With a modern force feedback joystick you actually feel the forces of rudder
and sheets. This makes sailing with Sail Simulator 4.0 even more realistic.
Besides modern joysticks have programmable buttons with can be used for thumb
control of the viewing direction and for swiching view or control mode.
Sail Simulator 4.0 was successfully tested with the following joysticks:
- Microsoft Sidewinder Force

- Microsoft Sidewinder Force
Feedback 2
- Logitech WingMan Force 3D Basic joystick control fuctions (Microsoft SideWinder FFB2):
- Left-Right: Rudder
- Fire button + for/backward:
adjusting (any) sheet
- Left and right (thumb) buttons
for selection of the sheet
- Thumb button for adjusting
the view direction
- Middle thumb button for switch
AUTOCREW on/off
- Other buttons for viewing mode
and start/stop engine
To
use Force Feedback in Sail Simulator 4.0, select FFB for Rudder and Sheets in
Preferences/Control. Use the sliders to optimise stability.
