Garra Climbing Shoe Sizes and Technical Information

    • The customer should be helped to order the correct size in the first instance: If you can ascertain the child's footlength prior to shipment it is easy to select the correct size shoe using the formula footlength + 5 mm = mininium shoe length. Shoe lengths for Garra shoes are:
      • EU30 179 mm (max recommended foot length 174 mm)
      • EU31 186 mm (max recommended foot length 181 mm)
      • EU32 193 mm (max recommended foot length 188 mm)
      • EU33 200 mm (max recommended foot length 195 mm)
      • EU34 207 mm (max recommended foot length 202 mm)
      • EU35 214 mm (max recommended foot length 209 mm)
      • EU36 221 mm (max recommended foot length 216 mm)

There is not a direct correlation between EU sizes and UK sizes (for example EU36 approximates to UK 4.25). We therefore recommend displaying only the EU sizes.

    • Children with very wide-fitting feet may need to an increase of ½ size for comfort.
    • If the child will wear socks while climbing, add at least ½ size. Climbing shoes are designed to be worn barefoot and are therefore manufactured smaller than an equivalent street shoe.
    • If a return is required, try to help the customer to exchange for the correct size:
        • Asking the customer to provide an outline of the child’s foot within the returned package is usually a well-received suggestion and enables us to measure and suggest a replacement size.
        • Other advice that you may find useful:

Children’s feet are far more sensitive than adult feet and grow faster. While advanced adult climbers may benefit from wearing shoes that are overly small, this approach it is not sensible or advised for children.

A small amount of excess toe space is desirable. Children weigh relatively little and exert much less force so there is usually very little deformation of the critical sole edges while climbing.

Children’s rock boots are not suitable for small-footed adult climbers as they are built on a special last designed specifically for children’s developing feet, which is also why they qualify for zero-rated VAT.

      Maintenance Advice

When choosing your climbing shoes, try the slippers in both foot, tighten the laces (or Velcro bands), exerting pressure in each foot at a time leaneing against a fixed obstacle or foothold. The fit should be tight and comfortable, but not painful, in order to reduce toe injuries. You will obtain high performance without suffering any pain.

It is very important to always keep your climbing shoes clean by rubbing any dirt off first with a cloth dampened with water and afterwards with alcohol. If some dirt still remains, rub them with a soft wire brush. Never store them without cleaning.

After a time of inactivity, make sure the rubber sole is perfectly clean, rub it with a wire brush or sandpaper and you will avoid shine which will improve adherence.
During transport or in storage, insert a shoetree into the climbing shoes or at least stuff them with newspaper to avoid deformation. Never twist or step on them as they will deform.

Never expose your climbing shoes to high temperatures nor put them next to the windows when the car is in the sun. Let them dry away from fire.
If you have to change the soles, bear in mind they must be resoled with "Garra Adhesión" rubber. If you want to change them yourself, first sand the old ones strongly, put contact glue, wait for the recommended time and then stick the new soles on by pressing until they are perfectly joined. Cut off the surplus parts.
